When the Quapaw Area Council was adding a second pool, a new pool house had to be planned to accommodate various activities, crowds, gender separation, comfort, security and protection from the elements. The four open air changing pods provide flexibility for various events. A north/south site orientation allows prevailing winds to cool the pool areas and the pool house. The pool house, latrines and shower houses all use a similar construction of translucent roof panels to provide shade from the sun but also provide natural light. The reflective roofs also provide an ambient glow at night with lanterns in the latrines and a few light fixtures in the pool house. The structures breath naturally, incorporating elevated walls and open roof trusses. This provides a constant breeze to cool and evaporate the wet surfaces.
