The challenge from the University was to create a signature building reflecting the uniqueness of its discipline. The new 32,000 square foot school of aviation houses administrative departments, classrooms, a flight simulation center, a meteorological lab, distance learning and testing centers, and a lecture auditorium. Each classroom within the facility is served by a floor-embedded cable tray system providing power and data for each student. The lobby, a glass-enclosed volume soaring nearly forty feet high, acts as the organizing spine of the entire project, and serves as both building foyer and event reception.
