UALR was in every sense a "streetcar campus." Students attending classes had no place to store their books between classes, no place to study other than the library, nowhere to eat or socialize. There were also no recreational facilities available for non-athletes and no space large enough to have a 500 person banquet for an indoor commencement exercise. The 120,000 square feet Donaghey Student Center links together the campus gymnasium and the campus dining hall. Included in the Student Center are features such as a large bookstore, a banquet hall, student organization offices, a T.V. lounge, group study rooms and a wellness center. Recreational facilities include a large swimming, diving and water polo pool, four basketball courts, a jogging track, two racquetball courts, and several varied exercise spaces.
